ChatGPT at universities - opportunities and side effects

RWTH Aachen University has been offering university-wide access to generative AI tools such as ChatGPT since July 2024. The tools can be used for all tasks in research, teaching and administration. Such technologies also open up enormous potential for companies: they offer the opportunity to automate processes, increase productivity and develop new business models. In addition to the technical provision and further development, the most important tasks also include the diverse training requirements for all stakeholders at the university. The presentation introduces the provision and use of generative AI at RWTH and discusses the various challenges that arise from this. We will also talk about the extent to which these experiences can be transferred to companies in order to successfully integrate the use of generative AI there, too.
